Back in 2008, SOS Presents staged Oklahoma! at the Nuffield Theatre where Nichola Paterson (then McKinley) played the much-loved part of Ado Annie. Nearly 20 years later, the society returns with the Rodgers and Hammerstein’s beloved classic this July at Mayflower Studios. Now, Nichola is stepping back into the spotlight – this time as the nurturing and non-nonsense Aunt Eller.
For Nichola, the production is more than just another role. It is a chance to revisit a show that holds special memories and to see it through fresh eyes nearly two decades later. As well as taking on the role of Aunt Eller, she is also serving as the Production Manager of SOS Presents, helping to coordinate the many behind-the-scenes elements that bring Oklahoma! to life. “I’ve got really fond memories of having a whale of a time doing the show,” she said. “The show is really nostalgic for me and I hope I can nurture the crazy young’uns this time around!”
Genie Isaacs, who takes on the role of Ado Annie in the 2026 production, was asked how she felt about sharing the stage with someone who had previously played the role. “It’s quite nice and calming knowing someone else understands what it’s like to be a bit silly. I know I’m not the only one who’s had to make a fool of myself!”
The 2026 production also features several other cast members with connections to the past show. In 2008, disaster struck when Mike Pavitt, who was cast as Jud, broke his leg just four days before opening night. Thankfully, David Tatnall stepped in and learned the role between pantomime performances. For his contribution, David was later nominated as Best Supporting Actor in a Musical in to 2008 Curtain Call nominations.
Nearly two decades later, both return to Oklahoma! once again, this time playing the intimidating Andrew Carnes and the travelling salesman Ali Hakim.
Set against the backdrop of the American frontier, Oklahoma! tells the story of love, rivalry and community, featuring iconic songs including Oh, What a Beautiful Mornin’, The Surrey with the Fringe on Top and the title song Oklahoma!.
As a society that has been performing in Southampton for over 100 years, SOS Presents has welcomed generations of performers to its stage, making reunions like these all the more special.
